We Asked 25 Women What They Wish Bra and Underwear Brands Got Right — Here’s What They Said
What do you look for when shopping for bras and underwear? Do you care most about how they feel after a full day of wear? Do you focus on support, shape, and finding the right band-and-cup combination? Or are you looking for pieces that feel sexy, look good, and still fit the way they should?
Perhaps you want all of the above, which was the answer we heard again and again when we spoke with more than two dozen creators, models, and other incredible women about what they wish bra and underwear brands got right. They aren’t asking for one perfect bra or one perfect pair of underwear. They want more options that account for different bodies, preferences, and everyday needs, whether that means extended sizing, softer fabrics, better support, or more variety within the same collection.
But before we made our own list of what brands could improve, we thought we’d go straight to the women wearing their pieces day in and day out. Courtney Faith, for one, wants extended sizing that still lets plus-size shoppers feel “sexy, feminine, and confident.” Meanwhile, Lauren Alexa wishes more brands would strike “a better balance between femininity and comfort.”

Courtney Faith
“I wish more brands got extended sizing right and realized that plus size doesn’t have to mean modest. I still want to feel sexy, feminine, and confident without giving up support. The best bras find that balance between delicate details like lace and a fit that’s actually designed for a larger bust. Comfort is also nonnegotiable for me. If a bra is beautiful but itchy or scratchy, I’m never going to reach for it. And when it comes to underwear, I love styles with a little tummy coverage that are still cheeky in the back. Supportive, comfortable, and stylish should all exist in the same piece.”

“I wish more brands struck a better balance between femininity and comfort. As someone who loves shopping for intimates, I often find it difficult to find comfortable bras and underwear that are still cute and feature feminine details like lace, bows, and sheer fabrics.”

“The one thing I wish, when shopping for bras, is that more brands cater to small band large cup! So many places designing for fuller busts start at a 30 band, and there’s a lot of girls like me who are a 28 band and actually more like a 26 band, but that’s impossible to find! So, more 28 bands in the DD plus range (ultimate wish, a 26 band!).
For underwear, I’d love to see more of the same design and colors in more styles, so thong, brief, Brazilian, high rise, mid rise, and low rise all in the same design as you just don’t see that enough.”

“I have a smaller band size with a fuller cup (30E), so finding the right fit can take some trial and error. I wish more brands offered a wider range of band and cup combinations, so once I find a brand that gets it right, I’m incredibly loyal because I know I can trust the fit. My size also tends to sell out quickly, so I like to stay up to date when new collections launch. I have a huge lingerie and panty collection, so I love adding pieces from seasonal and limited-edition releases.”

“When shopping for bras or underwear, I wish more brands mastered the balance of femininity and effortless elegance. I want something that feels like a second skin, looks beautifully refined, and works with everything from a slip dress to an oversized blazer. Comfort is non-negotiable, but it should always feel elevated.”

“Petite curvy sizing. Not petite and curvy, but both together! I’m only 5ft, but I am more on the athletic side. My underwear size range goes from XS to M because it’s hard to find something that accommodates my smaller waist and muscly bum! The same with bras. There is a huge misconception that DDs are huge, when in reality, I am a 6E / 8DD, and they look very proportionate to my body.
My identity as a petite female already faces a lot of scrutiny in the media, i.e., we appear child-like and unwomanly. It’s an additional struggle when having girl-chats with friends, being told, ‘You don’t look like a DD’ or ‘There’s no way your tiny body fits a M in underwear.’ Something brands need to do is prove that petite women exist, and we come in all shapes and sizes, too. Fighting these misconceptions for other petite-curvy women helps us feel seen and hopefully helps brands address sizing issues for smaller ladies.”

“I feel like a lot of brands put straps in weird places, which can really ruin a bra. I also struggle with the band being too tight, so I bought a bra extender and use that on every bra I wear now. It’s a game-changer as an over-stimulated girlie.”

“One thing that I wish brands got right more in bras and underwear is sizing. I honestly still to this day do not know what size I am in a bra. Smaller-chested women have a harder time nailing down a size, especially when they are having to buy online. I would love for brands to clarify whether the size would be “small chested friendly” to then determine what size they need. This could be whether the padding is a little less, more elasticity, etc. With underwear, brands need to get with the times of going 100% cotton but still make it comfortable!! I want to know that what I’m wearing every day is furthering my health for the future to come.”

“I wish we had more options for the front clasp and better support across bras in general. Also, more variety. I feel that with bigger boobs, I’m definitely limited in my styles and what I can get. Also need a good strapless support created, although this may be a mission for my entire life at this point.”

I don’t think women should have to choose between something that’s functional and something that makes them feel confident and feminine. My favorite bras are the ones I can wear comfortably all day while still feeling beautiful and a little sexy.”

“For bras, I look for underwire with push-up support and a deep-v so I can wear low-cut tops, but not too much padding! I also love bralettes to wear under mesh tops. For undies, I gravitate towards low-rise that sit high on the hips. I like stretchy, breathable fabric that doesn’t dig into your skin. That is something I wish more brands got right because no one likes when you can see your undies digging into your skin through your dress — not to mention how uncomfy it is!

“We need more 100% cotton underwear! Think about our microbiomes, pleaaaaase!!!! Also, personally, as someone with soft hips, I really love when thongs with strings on the side have that same type of adjustable thingy that a bra strap has, so I can prevent the strings from cutting into my sides.”

“What I wish brands got right: More fuller bust options overall! A lot of brands still don’t stock the sizes people need, and even when they do, they often don’t fit correctly or comfortably. So there’s still a real gap between ‘available’ and what’s actually comfortable. As a fuller-bust woman myself, we need good-fitted bras.”

“The absolute number one thing more brands need to fix is widening the gusset on underwear. It is incredibly frustrating how many ‘size-inclusive’ brands simply lengthen the waistband of their underwear without actually widening the crotch area. A larger body needs a wider base of coverage so things aren’t constantly slipping out or cutting into the leg crease.
